When God Gives Us a Blank Slate….
-->
How many times have you wished you could start over? You felt less
than perfect, you made a bad decision, you responded to someone in a negative
way, or you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Have you wanted a blank slate?
Five years ago, my mom got a clean slate without even asking for
one. She had a brain bleed that we thought was an aneurism or stroke. After
brain surgery, the removing of part of her skull, and a year or more of
recovery, she is good as new. She made it back to driving, golfing, walking
with her walking buddies, yoga, quilting, and doing all of the things she loved
to do. Her faith has been renewed to, and her walk with Him even closer. Talk
about getting a “do-over”!
But God gives us that “blank slate” to start all over every time
we come to Him in prayer!
Think about Hebrews, chapter 10:17-20
17 He concludes, I'll forever wipe the slate clean of their sins.
18 Once sins are taken care of for good, there's no longer any need to offer
sacrifices for them. 19 So, friends, we can now - without hesitation - walk
right up to God, into "the Holy Place." 20 Jesus has cleared the way
by the blood of his sacrifice, acting as our priest before God.
We just have to be willing to come to Him anytime, and ALL the
time! It shouldn’t take a tragedy to realize that we can come to Him in prayer for
forgiveness, a fresh start, or for anything.
As I read my granddaughter to sleep tonight, I read a book called,
“That’s When I Talk to God“ by Dan & Ali Morrow. The premise of the story
is that we can pray anytime and anywhere. And prayers can be prayed about
anything. But do we come to Him with that regularity and with that kind of
intention? He gives us a blank slate every time we do! Every time pray, every
time we ask for forgiveness, every time we call His name!
As I sat and looked at this blank canvas today in my daughter’s
home, it reminded me of this. It reminded me of the fact that this is how we
start out each and every day. This canvas awaits the inspiration of an artist
but we, as Christians have the master creator and artist to give us
inspiration, grace, and forgiveness and a new start each and every day.
What are you wanting God to write on your canvas today? Don’t wait
for a tragic moment to start over or to come to Him for that inspiration! Come
to Him in prayer every day for His message! He is ready to write it on your
canvas! That’s your blank slate! Given each and every day!
